Allhallowtide refers to the triduum of the commemoration of the dead. Halloween has been secularized in our culture to represent a slew of ideas, but Halloween's roots are actually Christian. In the Catholic Church, a triduum refers to three days of prayer in preparation of a feast. Allhallowtide is a sort of triduum in which we honor the dead, those who are in heaven and those working to get there. The allhallowtide triduum includes Hallows Eve on October 31, (shortened Hallowe’en), All Saints Day on November 1 (All Hallows Day) and All Souls Day on November 2. As with other major feasts, celebration of All Saints Day or All Hallows Day begins on the vigil or the night before, which is why secular culture celebrates Halloween on the night of October 31st.
